形态特征:多年生高大草本,高1-2.5米。外表皮黄褐色至褐色,有浓烈气味。茎通常紫色,中空,有纵长沟纹。基生叶一回羽状分裂,茎上部叶二至三回羽状分裂,卵形至三角形。复伞形花序顶生或侧生,花序梗、伞辐和花柄均有短糙毛。花白色,花瓣倒卵形,顶端内曲成凹头状。果实长圆形至卵圆形,黄棕色,有时带紫色,厚而钝圆,近海绵质。花期7-8月,果期8-9月。多变种。

本文报道了用当归离体根颈即根端的芽和叶柄切段诱导愈伤组织的适宜培养基及激素与温度对器官分化的效应。通过愈伤组织的细胞学观察,判断植株再生方式为胚状体和不定芽(苗)。还应用薄层层析、纸层析法,初步鉴定证明所获得的培养物具有合成与栽培当归根同样成分的挥发油和碳水化合物的能力,进一步证明了一些学者提出的“植物的离体细胞在人工培养下,具有药物生物合成的全能性”。
当归为中医常用的补血活血药之一。设想当归的补血活血可能和增强机体免疫功能有关,故进行本项研究。实验分两部分:(1)给小鼠静脉注射当归16g/kg或阿魏酸钠100~200mg/kg均能显著地促进单核吞噬细胞系统对刚果红的廓清率。(2)给小鼠灌胃阿魏酸钠0.3g/kg或皮下给0.2g/kg能增强腹腔巨噬细胞吞噬鸡红细胞的能力。皮下给当归20g/kg也有增强作用。
